San DIEGO (AP) March 30 - Scientists at that University of California - San Diego published a study yesterday claiming that overuse of a vibrator can over-stimulate the nerve endings in the vagina, thus making sexual intercourse with a partner less pleasurable.
Dr. Rudy Morgenstern, a professor in the medical school, studied over 500 women who use vibrators for prolonged amounts of time, which he defined as almost-daily use for three months or more.
Of those 500 women, over 300 of them found it difficult to have an orgasm from penetration.
"I had no idea this would happen," said Lisa, a study participant who asked to remain anonymous. "My new boyfriend can't satisfy me. I'm actually pretty upset about this. I used to be able to have multiple orgasms with my other boyfriends, but now my vibrator is the only thing that can get me off."
Dr. Morgenstern did note that a procedure that will stimulate the nerve endings inside the vagina with electric shocks, called gynoelectricoscopy, could help renew a woman's orgasmic possibilities.
